A plan’s formulary determines which medications it covers and the cost tier assigned to each drug. Review every current prescription, dosage, preferred pharmacy, and whether mail-order service is appropriate. Also check for prior authorization, step therapy, or quantity limits. Comparing drug coverage carefully can prevent unexpected costs and help identify the most suitable Part D or Medicare Advantage option.

Your parent should be involved in reviewing plan materials and authorizing any needed communications. Medicare Annual Enrollment generally runs from October 15 through December 7 each year, with changes taking effect January 1. During this period, beneficiaries can change Medicare Advantage or Part D plans.
